Tonight, I skipped my Texas Iron run workout to do the RunFAR Bike Time Trial on South MoPac. RunFAR holds an informal time trial on the third Tuesday of each month, from April through September. The route is a very simple out and back course heading south on MoPac from LaCrosse Ave. down to Camp Ben McCullough Rd. (where MoPac dead ends), and then back up to LaCrosse. The course is roughly 8 miles long and is pretty flat with just a few minor grade changes.
Here's a link to a "Map My Ride" map of the course: Time Trial Course Map.
So, anyhoo . . . I took Sharkboy out there for a test of speed. I did pretty well. Averaged 26.4 mph and rode the course in 18 min., 11, sec., finishing with the fourth fastest time of the night. Of course, the top 3 guys all averaged over 27 mph and were just SMOKIN' fast, despite the headwind on the return leg of the course!
Here's the link to the results: June '07 RunFAR Time Trial Results.
I probably should have gone to the run workout to get some light running in to test out my hamstring, but I missed this ride last month and really wanted to give it a go. I'm glad I did. My hammy feels okay tonight, despite pushing hard on the TT. I may do some light jogging tomorrow if the weather holds out.
Thursday, it's off to Lubbock for BSLT 70.3!

Hi Dan! I like your blog. We've been doing some of the same races (Tuesday night time trials, Iron Star, Buffalo Springs). You are a beast on the 8 mile TT! So where is the Buffalo Springs report? Regarding nutrition in races, I'm the other extreme from you, I did not consume any calories at Ironstar or Buffalo Springs until after the race! Pretty weird, huh?
See you at the races!
Cheers, Dave Hoffman
